The directors of the company are chosen for appointment with reference to their experience and ability to contribute to the charity’s work. The Board of Directors meets regularly and has appointed sub-committees covering the principal aspects of the company’s operations. These are the current Board Members of Harmeny Education Trust Limited:

Alison Davies Alison Davies OBE (Chair)

After graduating from Glasgow University and Moray House College, Alison worked in community development, youth work and adult education in various parts of Scotland during the 1970’s. Appointed to develop a new national programme for Save the Children in Scotland in the early 1980’s, she was awarded an OBE in 1992 for services to charity in Scotland.  She completed an MBA in 1998 and continued as Programme Director with Save the Children until 2005. Alison now works as a consultant and volunteer in the children and young people’s sector. Alison has been a member of the Board since it was established in 1995 and took over the Chair in December 2005.

Margery Browning OBE

Qualified as a secondary teacher and educational psychologist, Margery worked first as a teacher in a secondary school and then in a local authority psychological service.  She went on to teacher education and special educational needs research at the University of Strathclyde before being appointed to Her Majesty’s Inspectorate of Education in 1983. Since retiring from HMIE in 2005 she has worked in education authorities as a consultant and as an adjudicator in cases arising from the Additional Support for Learning legislation. Margery joined the Board in March 2006.

Kerr Cowan MBE

Kerr worked as a Chartered Accountant in Edinburgh and London before becoming a partner in Whitelaw Wells. He retired from full time work in 1998 and now works as a consultant. Kerr’s earlier involvement with charities was as Edinburgh Branch Treasurer of Save The Children Fund, a post he filled for twenty-five years. His involvement with Harmeny School dates back to 1980 when he joined the school management committee. He became a director of Harmeny Education Trust Ltd on its formation in 1995 and was awarded an MBE in 2001 for services to education.

 

Scott Rae

Scott is Senior Partner in the Private Client Division at Morton Fraser LLP and heads up the Firm’s trusts and charities teams. He has extensive experience in the charity law field and acts as director and trustee for a number of charities and grant giving trusts.
