The great 2019 Harmeny Sports Day was launched by a special guest – the school’s very own new mascot.
“Adidazzler” was created from an original drawing by a Harmeny pupil. He was introduced to all the gathered pupils and visitors by Mandy Shiel, Head of Education, before declaring the annual sporting challenge “open”. And while all the teams ran off to take part in a range of imaginative and fun activities, Adidazzler took the opportunity to try out the slide on the school’s front lawn!
Adidazzler is just one example of the amazing creativity demonstrated by Harmeny pupils during the year. An impressive Tutankhamun mask provided memories of an exhibition all about Egypt, put together by one knowledgeable young pupil; while another boy’s meticulously designed hammer bead artwork had also been put on display – and sold to delighted staff and pupils.
“We encourage creativity in all our pupils”, Mandy told gathered parents, carers and visitors, “and have been so proud of what has been produced this year, and the way in which every single child has improved their numeracy and literacy skills.”
