Harmeny Education Trust’s commitment to paying a living wage makes a difference not only to the school’s staff but to its children too.
Harmeny is celebrating its recent accreditation as a Living Wage Employer. This makes us the only Third Sector care organisation in Edinburgh to have received this recognition from the government funded Scottish Living Wage Accreditation Initiative.
We were delighted to receive formal recognition at a special ceremony on Wednesday, 8 November.
Accreditation to the Living Wage is one way that Harmeny demonstrates commitment to its staff and to attracting future talent, which ultimately impacts on the children’s lives.
“By guaranteeing the Living Wage to all our employees, we encourage long term commitment for Harmeny from all our staff. That means we achieve greater consistency in the lives of our children,” says Steven Still, Harmeny’s Head of HR and Workforce Development.
Peter Kelly, Director of the Poverty Alliance, also welcomed the news. He noted that the Living Wage is “one of the most effective means we have of tackling in-work poverty, and Living Wage accreditation is the mark of a responsible employer.
“With more than half of children in poverty in Scotland living in a household where someone works, paying a real Living Wage that reflects the cost of living has never been more important.”
