Inaugural Harmeny Wine Challenge raises £40K

The first Harmeny Wine Challenge took place at the beautiful Merchants’ Hall in Edinburgh on Thursday 13 June. Over 140 guests joined us in testing their wine knowledge and found out more about how Harmeny supports vulnerable children across Scotland. The generosity of the guests was overwhelming, with over £40,000 raised towards our Learning for Life Appeal!

Huge thanks to our sponsors Dunedin House Properties whose generous donation ensured that all funds raised went directly to our Appeal.

Setting the scene – over 1,000 glasses poured!

Following a champagne reception, guests were asked questions about eight wines supplied by Livingston-based Wine Importers – four reds and four whites – with the option of buying answers.

We also heard from Alan Sinclair about our intrepid Everest Trek Team, and received the news that a further £5,000 had been donated to their fundraising total from The Donaldson Leadership Academy Trust!

Guests enjoying the atmosphere and fine food

Neil Squires, chief executive of Harmeny, said: “We’d like to thank all of our guests and corporate sponsors who made this event possible.

“It was a tremendous effort and, thanks to the generosity of our supporters, we’ve taken another massive step towards achieving our target that will pay for these amazing and much needed facilities.”

Thank you to everyone who attended, volunteered, donated prizes and placed bids – we can’t wait for next year!
