Harmeny is fortunate in having a large number of Friends who have supported us over the years and are key players in our £2.4 million Learning for Life Appeal.
In groups or individually, through a wide range of events and initiatives, Friends of Harmeny have given their time, promoted our work and fundraised for over 20 years. They have supported our community in many ways: volunteering at our annual Sports Day; organising stalls at the local Christmas Fair; hosting wine tastings; participating in sponsored events. . . the list is endless.
The enthusiasm and commitment of this special group has made a huge difference to what the school can offer – from helping fund major capital projects to the purchase of equipment, toys and outings for children. Projects have included:
- the Harmeny skateboard park
- a fleet of pedal Go Karts
- outdoor play equipment and safety surfaces
- a ‘basket swing’ within our adventure playground
“The important thing about what I call low level, private fundraising is that it demonstrates to the big givers and Trusts that we’re putting the effort in.” (Friend)
Our focus now is on supporting the Harmeny Learning for Life Appeal, which will drive forward the school’s vision of extending its support to young people over the age of 14 and within the wider community. The funds raised will allow the school to upgrade two of its residential cottages and build a brand new outdoor centre / learning hub as a base for specialist outdoor, art, design and technology opportunities.
Becoming a Friend
You can be a Friend of Harmeny in whatever way best suits you. If you can contribute time, enthusiasm, energy or contacts, we’d love to hear from you and chat about your ideas and what you’d like to offer. You will find yourself welcomed by staff and children alike, and be part of a wide network of supporters. You may wish to:
- help organise a fundraising event
- provide equipment or expertise
- lend a pair of hands ‘on the day’
- undertake voluntary work around the Harmeny estate
- raise sponsorship by participating in fundraising events
Large or small, your contribution will be greatly valued and you will have the satisfaction of knowing that your effort will directly benefit the children at Harmeny.
“My overall association with the school has been one of the most influential parts of my life. . . I’ll keep coming as long as they’re prepared to keep me.” (Friend)
If you are interested please contact the school by phone on: 0131 449 3938 or email us at firstname.lastname@example.org. We would be delighted to hear from you.
