“We have found all aspects of communication with Harmeny to be absolutely seamless – from the initial home visit before our foster son started at the school, to the regular phone, text and email updates, and the home visits.”
In light of the current situation regarding coronavirus please be assured that Harmeny Education Trust is closely monitoring the evolving situation and following all advice provided by:
- The Scottish Government
- NHS including the Lothian Health Protection Team
- The Care Inspectorate
- Education Scotland
- Office of the Scottish Charity Regulator (OSCR)
A robust Action Plan is in place and being constantly reviewed and amended.
As a residential school and care home for vulnerable children and young people our priority is to ensure the health and wellbeing of those in our care and our key workers.
In order to protect our children and staff we are managing the number of visits and visitors to Harmeny carefully in line with government guidance. Meetings out with the school are being conducted in an alternative way such as via conference calls / video conferencing wherever possible. These restrictions are in place until further notice and will be reviewed regularly.
Essential meetings and visits
Essential meetings and visits will still take place that are required to ensure the necessary and immediate protection of children and young people, as well as staff. These will include urgent children’s review meetings, referral / placement / transition meetings, and legal meetings such as Children’s Hearings.
We ask that all essential visitors contact us before planning any visits and guidelines and support will be provided to ensure a safe visit for all involved.
Parents, carers and family members
In line with the Scottish Government Route Map, we are now able to organise visits for families and key professionals, in order to spend time with their child.
We are asking all families and key professionals to contact us before planning any visits and guidelines and support will be provided to ensure a safe visit for all involved.
As an alternative to face to face contact Harmeny has several technology-based solutions that could be used to help maintain regular contact with a child or young person in our care. Please contact the Admin team on 0131 449 3938 or email firstname.lastname@example.org to discuss the options available to you.
Please do not attend any pre-arranged visit to Harmeny and follow NHS guidance if:
- you are experiencing symptoms of coronavirus or you have any symptoms of coronavirus
- you are waiting for a coronavirus test result
- you have tested positive for coronavirus
- you live with someone who has symptoms, is waiting for a test result or has tested positive
Please contact Harmeny to let us know you are unable to visit as planned and alternative arrangements will be made.
Learning for Life Appeal
We hugely appreciate the support of those who have supported our coronavirus appeal. Your support has enabled us to minimise the impact of the virus restrictions on the children at Harmeny.
Our Learning for Life Appeal continues and we are as determined as ever to ensure that our young people get the facilities and support they need to build skills for life and work. We are also committed to play our part in supporting more young people in our wider community, many of whom have been adversely affected by the impact of the pandemic.
Regrettably other events related to the Appeal which were due to take place in 2020 have now been cancelled. You can keep up to date with our news here.
Due to the current situation relating to the Covid-19 pandemic, the recruitment of volunteers has been put on hold for the moment. To register for updates on when this changes or for enquiries, please email email@example.com
